Why do women, including some major former Hillary Clinton supporters, support Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden? I had the opportunity to interview two women's rights leaders at the CNN Grill at during the Democratic National Convention in Denver this week.
The interview above is of Katherine Spillar,Executive Vice President of the Feminist Majority Foundation and Feminist Majority. My interview with Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority and former President of NOW has also been removed.

I'm back home and Joe Biden is about to speak. His son, Attorney General of Delaware, Beau Biden, just gave a rousing speech for him.
Thoughts and updates below.
Update: Biden's family seems very nice. The best part was when he finished and Barack Obama came out. Obama looked really happy and relaxed.
I think Michelle Obama is Biden's biggest fan.
Your turn.

This letter was written by a friend of mine, whose letters I have published several times over the years on TalkLeft. When I first met him, he was a criminal defense lawyer with a very high profile Washington, DC law firm. (I served as local counsel for one of his clients.)
He then became a high ranking official in the Clinton Justice Department. We were on opposing sides then but remained in touch. He's been back in private practice in D.C. for several years since then. During four of those years, we both served on a prominent national legal board that met every three months in various cities. While he's never going to agree with all of my positions on crime issues, I still have tremendous respect for him. He's really one of the good guys -- and a true Democrat.
We've been corresponding throughout this election campaign as he was a strong supporter of Sen. Barack Obama from the beginning. He was unable to convince me that Obama would be a better President or nominee than Hillary. Of course, I agree with him that Obama would be a better President than John McCain.
His letter to Hillary Clinton supporters, sent to me for TalkLeft this morning, is below:

Tommy Chong, a TalkLeft favorite, had this to say to the Washington Post about Joe Biden:
"Check out the people you're voting for.... "For instance, Joseph Biden comes off as a liberal Democrat, but he's the one who authored the bill that put me in jail. He wrote the law against shipping drug paraphernalia through the mail - which could be anything from a pipe to a clip or cigarette papers."

Conservative reporter Stacy McCain, recalls Hunter S. Thompsons's words on McGovern's selection of Tom Eagleton from Fear and Loathing:

The Associated Press' analysis of Sen. Barack Obama's pick of Joe Biden to be his VP: It shows a lack of confidence on Obama's part:
The candidate of change went with the status quo. In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.
The AP lists the non-status quo choices available to Obama, all of whom got glossed over. [More...]

CNN just read a statement from John McCain. Completely predictable. He points out that Joe Biden said Barack Obama is not qualified to be President. I guess we can expect that video to be replayed ad nauseum.

Joe Biden to the New Hampshire Leader in 2007:
Biden was generally critical of the far left wing of his party and of the strategies the frontrunners are using to win the nomination.
He said Democrats would do better if they stopped dividing the electorate by playing to their base and instead brought people together. He criticized the left wing of his party for demonizing the rich and Republicans.
“Rich folks are as patriotic as poor folks, but we don’t talk that way,” he said.
Biden also talked about his electoral strategy:[More...]

ABC says Biden backtracked a little on his denial that he is Obama's Veep pick. My response:
And a shout-out to Jerome at MyDD.
It's also looking less likely Hillary or Kathleen Sebelius will be the choice. ABC News says Obama's been using the "he" pronoun today rather than his customary "he or she."
I still say it's more likely Kaine than Biden.

Earlier, Big Tent Democrat made another case for Hillary as Vice President. I'll make another case against Sen. Joe Biden. My specific arguments are contained in these posts:
- Report: Kaine, Biden, Bayh at Top of Obama's Veep List
- Joe Biden is No Progressive on Crime Issues.
- Joe Biden Feels a Draft
- Delaware's Shame: Prison AIDS Crisis
Check out these Joe Biden quotes below:

Joe Biden left for Georgia today to meet with its President.
Either Obama is not naming his VP candidate Monday or on a more hopeful note, it's not Biden.
I'm wondering if Bill Richardson could be back in the running, even though he has a speaker slot at the convention. Obama will be in New Mexico Monday, and New Mexico is one of those states (with its five electoral votes) Obama is trying hard to win but he faces a lot of resistance among Hispanic voters in the southern half of the state.

Problem: If Joe Biden is the nominee, count me out. I couldn't even clap for the ticket.
Other reasons: His saying we may need to rethink the military draft. His inability to cure rampant injustices in his own state, where one of every four prisoners who died in prison since 2000 died of AIDS-related diseases and the states' prisons suffer from an atrocious lack of medical care.
I'm just warming up. I so hope Obama doesn't pick Biden. He is the antithesis of change and the embodiment of your father's Oldsmobile. [More...]

Per CNN, Joe Biden says he's withdrawing from the Presidential race. Good. He's the one Democrat running I would not have supported for President -- the last thing we need is another law and order President.
